Hunger Games #3 by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Just a heads up: they’ve finally released the title of the third book in Suzanne CollinsThe Hunger Games series, following up Catching Fire, the successful and incredibly suspenseful sequel toThe Hunger Games.

The final installment, Mockingjay, will follow up the incredible twist-ending of Catching Fire–but I’m not saying any more, as there’s no way to do so without spoilers.

One of my partners in crime, The Boy Detective, says this about the book, and I like his point:

The cover makes me think this will have a happy ending.

I also like that the Mockingjay gets more freedom as the covers progress.

I never realized it, but he’s right! Each cover displays a Mockingjay that gradually breaks free. That’s why we need The Boy Detective, to snoop out these things!

Also, here’s a funny commentary and “reveals” by David Levithan, of Scholastic.

I can’t wait for this book to come out!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! Just to further blow your mind, I also would like to point out that each cover has circle imagery somewhere in the artwork. The first book showcases the Mockingjay pin enclosed in a golden circle. The second book shows the Mockingjay in the circle that includes crosshairs as Katniss is definitely targeted in the book as well as being divided into twelve sections like the clock set-up of the arena. The final book showcases circle imagery is well except in this case the Mockingjay shatters the circle and we see the shards flying as the Mockingjay spreads its wings. I have to give credit to The Hunger Games trilogy for truly effective and thoughtful cover art throughout the entire series.
