London, Day 8 (Epilogue), or “There and Back Again, A Traveler’s Tale”

So, our London trip didn’t end on Day 7. Our final day was intense and never-ending!

We got up at 5am to get to the airport for the required 3 hours early arrival time, only to sit at Gatwick for forever before boarding. The plane took off on time and we arrived in the U.S. at a little before 3pm. After waiting 7 and a half hours in the Charlotte Airport, eating good BBQ, watching movies on my iPod (the 2nd Horatio Hornblower installment: “Examination for Lieutenant” and The Incredible Hulk), and getting some good reading done, we took off.

Finally, we got into Cincinnati at 11:30pm, were picked up by a friend, and got home.

It’s always bittersweet when arriving home. It’s good to be back, but I always feel that connection to the place from which I just came. I’m happy to have written about it for a week in order to really cement my week across the pond in my memory.

I can’t wait to get back there!

Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.

–Samuel Johnson

  1. Well done sirrah! I enjoyed reading the London series immensely and looking at the hundreds of pictures was delightful!

    I enjoy The Hobbit reference.

I think that the long wait in Charlotte was due to the fact that you had “The Incredible Hulk” on your iPod:-/

The Samuel Johnson quote at the end is perfect and is exactly how I feel about London.

    *sigh*

Thanks for writing such detailed entries!

Also, I feel like I am that much closer to actually getting caught up on your blog!
