The Tempest

I’m always excited when a new adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s plays comes out. Julie Taymor did an amazing job with her hauntingly beautiful production of Titus, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange.

Now, she’s set her sights on The Tempest. It’s a difficult play to do properly, to actually do justice to the source material. There’s a BBC production with a half-naked Ariel prancing about in a distracting manner. There’s also a claymation version.

This, however, looks excellent, kind of out there, but a solid film.

  1. I saw the trailer over the weekend. Rather a strange looking film, but now that technology can keep pace with all of Will’s ideas, they can’t be anything but strange.
